After too much insulin has been secreted, the body becomes immune to its presence and the cells will no longer react to it causing diabetes. Since the body is no longer recognizing the presence of the insulin, the sugar-controlling substance in the body, blood sugar will keep increasing thus causing diabetes.


Obesity is also often associated with certain kinds of cancer both for men and women. Obese women are more likely to develop cancer in the cervix, uterus, ovary, gall bladder, colon and breast. Obesity has been proven to increase or affect the level of estrogen which can be associated with uterine cancer. Summing it all up, obesity can cause death. There's nothing more dangerous than having your life at stake.


Having too much of something will always be bad. Dangers of obesity can be prevented. We still have the chance to minimize the risk of the health conditions brought by it. Health conditions have already been discussed above, and they are all associated with the same root cause, which is obesity. Therefore, to be able to minimize the risk of those health conditions from happening, we need to lessen and minimize the factors contributing to obesity itself. There was an interesting and rather troubling article in the UK Telegraph recently titled "Obesity is Contagious as Fat Friends Make You Feel Normal" by published on Sunday May 8, 2011. The teaser sentence stated: "Obesity is contagious - with people who have a higher number of fat friends or relatives at a greater risk of becoming obsess themselves, warns new research."


Now then, this research does make sense, and perhaps none of us are too surprised by the results or the empirical data on this research, but it certainly is something to think about. Does this mean we should dump all of our friends who are overweight? After all, perhaps another study could be done about those folks who are overweight and obese who have lots of skinny friends. Maybe it helps them to watch their diets to lose weight to look like their friends.


So what's the right ratio? Should people who are too skinny have friends who are regular, and maybe a couple of obese to friends? Should folks who are Obese have more skinny friends? Should every group of in shape and skinny humans have one friend who is obese or overweight? If so, that might help the obese person lose weight, and remind this skinny people that if they don't watch what they eat they might someday look like them.


There are concerns and issues in this dilemma. Yes, maybe this topic is to politically incorrect for anyone to even consider, and therefore we are all doomed to gain weight for failure to address these concerns and consider what to do about it? Now then, if this study is correct and it is easier to become overweight when we have lots of obese Friends, then we need to know this, not necessarily to limit our overweight friends, but to realize that it is no excuse for allowing ourselves to become out of shape.


Most of us have friends or family who are perhaps a little overweight. Nevertheless, the more friends we have who are overweight, the more it typically makes us feel good about ourselves for being thin, or at least in better shape. However, that can easily cause someone to not worry as they gain a few extra pounds, which can cause them to develop poor eating habits, or not take their exercising seriously. This indeed puts them at risk of becoming overweight or obese also.

Science and technology have made life easier and more convenient, most people hardly have the chance to even move. As we strive to balance the demands of school, career and family, we become so dependent on boxed breakfasts, fast food lunches and pre-packaged dinners. We hardly have time to exercise. As a result, more and more Americans are getting overweight and obese.


Despite the growing number of obesity-related illnesses, it seems that a great number of us don't really comprehend the price of obesity. It is a hefty sum that affects our physical, social, mental, emotional and cultural life that everyone should be concerned about. But in case we need constant reminding of the huge price of obesity, here's the lowdown:


Obesity predisposes an individual to physical illness. When you are obese, you are more prone to heart disease, cancer, type 2 diabetes, high blood pressure and stroke.


Obesity triggers psychological issues. A person who is obese suffers from self-esteem and self-confidence problems. The fatter a person gets, the more prone he or she is to depression, impaired body image and mood changes.


Obese people stay longer in the hospital. A study conducted by Purdue University revealed that obese people stay an average of one to one-and-half days longer in the hospital due to disease. The morbidly obese pay almost two times as much for their healthcare costs compared to people of normal weight. This is according to a survey conducted by the University of Cincinnati.


Obese people have a hard time looking for clothes that fit. Shopping becomes a chore and often, a depressing thought.


Obesity affects productivity. Obese people have to constantly battle their health issues and keep on seeing their doctors, so they usually end up getting more absences compared to those who have healthy weights.


Obesity affects relationships. Those who are obese often cannot understand why their partners look for someone else. Ironically, the answer is in those love handles. They're not really lovable, after all.


Obesity sets a bad example to our children. When parents are obese, children will most likely be obese. Young people who are obese now also get more prone to the diseases associated with being on the heavy side now and even when they grow older.


Obesity halts dreams and aspirations. Those who have always wanted to follow a military career or a life of glamour and beauty often find that these professions do not look kindly on those who cannot pass physical tests or can't fit on screen, literally and figuratively.


Obesity causes premature deaths. The more obese a person gets, the more he or she is at risk for obesity-related diseases. In many cases, a heart attack prematurely ends a life, leaving families and children behind. This is the major price of obesity.

Our sedentary lifestyles have made us a nation of couch potatoes. If health experts and doctors could label the contents in a bottle of cola, this is how it would read: Pesticides; carcinogenic preservatives (sodium benzoate); toxic flavor enhancers (MSG); toxic artificial sweeteners in 'diet beverages' (aspartame); ladles of sugar in regular beverages (sucrose and high-fructose corn syrup); a neurotoxin (caffeine); unnatural synthetic vitamins in 'healthful' products; and scores of class-action lawsuits.


But why do colas make us put on weight? The answer lies in four innocuous-sounding words: high-fructose corn syrup (HFCS). Present in most soft drinks and processed foods, HFCS is a refined sugar that has one sole purpose: sweetening a product.


While doing so, it adds plenty of empty calories to our bodies (calories that have zero nutrition, unlike natural sugar) and makes you put on weight.


HFCS, the most popular synthetic sweetener and sugar substitute in the US, is made from corn. It is made by using genetically modified enzymes to convert corn starch into glucose, which is then converted into fructose.

High fiber food. Fiber has the ability to make you feel full and is highly nutritious, though it doesn't really contain a lot of calories. It helps the body and especially the intestinal system to function a lot better. To get a good dose of fiber make sure to eat vegetables, fruit, and unprocessed grains and cereals.


Lean protein. Our muscle tissue has a direct bearing on our metabolic rate. The more lean muscle tissue we have the faster we burn calories. As our muscles are made of protein, it's imperative that we eat enough of it in our diet. Good sources of lean protein are chicken, turkey, egg whites, tuna, and salmon.


Good Fats. Yes I said fats. Even if we want to lose weight our body still needs fat in order to function properly. But there's a huge difference between good and bad fat. In order to get good fat we should eat walnuts, almonds, flax seeds and other nuts, olive oil, avocados, and coconut. Remember, no fat isn't healthy and is bad for long term weight loss goals.


Snacks. This isn't a specific food but I had to include it because snacking can actually help you to lose weight. It has been shown that it's better to eat 5-6 meals or snacks each day than 3 square meals. Our body handles food better when it's in small doses. Snacking also keeps our blood sugar levels constant and helps the body burn fat faster.


Herbal tea. Drinking a hot beverage like tea helps you to lose weight faster for a number of reasons. First, drinking a hot beverage is a slow business meaning that it takes your mind off eating. Second, herbal tea has soothing affects on us which help to avoid craving and it's another way to increase our water intake. It also contains a lot of antioxidants which help to slow down the aging process.


Water. Most people don't consider water as food, but it's highly important to your weight loss efforts. Drinking enough water helps to stave off your hunger and also assists in all bodily functions, including the metabolism. Drink 8-12 glasses each day. You will look and feel much better.
